The scorching sun is above us, and anything that keeps us cool inside, we are up for it.

Considering the temperature change, we decided to suggest an amazing drink that will surely keep your insides cool.

Sabja seeds, commonly known as sweet basil seeds, possess a remarkable ability to absorb up to four times their dry weight, transforming into a gel-like substance. This hydrogel acts as a reservoir for electrolytes and water, replenishing what is lost through excessive sweating during hot summers.

Moreover, according to Ayurveda, sabja seeds exert a beneficial post-digestive effect on the gut, promoting soothing relief. Summer’s heat and prolonged sun exposure, along with electrolyte imbalances, often lead to gastrointestinal discomfort. Common issues like acidity tend to arise during this season. Regular consumption of sabja seeds has demonstrated positive outcomes in alleviating such concerns.

Here is an easy recipe for a refreshing drink. Try it and let us know if it helped.

Serves: 2

Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • ½ tbsp sabja seeds (also known as basil seeds or tukmaria)
  • 2 tsp raw and unpasteurized honey (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Ice cubes (optional)

Method:

  1. Soak the sabja seeds in water for about 10-15 minutes until they swell up and become gelatinous.
  2. In a blender, combine the soaked sabja seeds, fresh mint leaves, raw honey, coconut water, and water.
  3. Blend until smooth.
  4. Serve over ice cubes for a refreshing drink.

Notes:

  • The combination of mint, honey, and coconut water creates a refreshing and invigorating drink, perfect for cooling down on a hot summer day.
  • Sabja seeds are rich in fiber and protein and have traditionally been used to aid digestion and relieve bloating and constipation. Mint is also known for its digestive properties, helping to soothe the stomach.
