The basic idea behind going back to roots is to go back to simplicity. But, unfortunately, in a
a world like today, where things are moving so fast, simplicity is becoming the new luxury.
If there is one learning from the last seven to eight years of handling diseases and health of our patients from across the globe suffering from obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular, cancer, thyroid conditions, Alzheimer's, hormonal imbalances, and so on, then it has to be the fact that there is luxury in simplicity. Back to the roots is about the basics of what we need for living. This in no way means not to aspire for more. One can have all of that, but do not forget your basic needs for healthy living.
We have complicated health way too much. Fad diets, fad exercise programs, calorie counting, expensive superfoods, and other diet trends - we are constantly chasing these to gain results, not understanding that the human body needs only the basics. If all of that worked, then human health couldn't have been on a steep decline as it is today.
Going back to the roots is not just a diet change. It is an entire approach towards life. Back to
Roots celebrates our ancestors' culture and lifestyle because there is so much wisdom in it that we can always learn. There is so much to learn from our own indian culture. Unfortunately, our Indian culture is looked down upon and called horrible and weight gain, but why blame the food and culture for something wrong because of our faulty and sedentary lifestyle? If our culture were so unhealthy, our ancestors wouldn't have lived the quality of life. So many diseases were unheard of back then. What went wrong? It is very easy to blame cuisines or consider one diet better than the other. However, when I look at my patients' lifestyles who reside outside of India, like the USA, Russia, and Spain, at least 95% embrace Indian culture. They add turmeric to their food, enjoy well-made Indian curries, respect the age-old custom of offering gratitude before food, and so much more. They see, feel and understand the benefits. Additionally, there is a large population of people in the West embracing yoga and pranayama. Why is that? Because it works. And it is sad to see something so native to us is not given value in India until it is adopted by the West, glorified, and approved there. Today, I have clients from Russia and Australia brewing turmeric teas and embracing yoga because they know its benefits on the human body.
There is so much to learn from Indian culture alone, and most of us haven't explored it enough. This inspired me to write my latest book, "Back To Roots," with Tamannaah, where we have unearthed and thrown light on these beautiful traditions and put them together in a book. This book is filled with remedies, facts, logic and reasoning, and simple things one could do to address health concerns right from earaches, hair fall, gut issues, etc. You can open any page, and there will be some takeaway that can inspire you to change your life and health.
As human beings, we must be proud of these roots, Indian or not, because there is so much we can take away from our ancestors, culture, and traditions.
